Born in 1928 in Cuba. Fernandez was given a scholarship to study art in Paris in 1959. He never returned to Cuba and remained in Paris to consort with Matta, Lam and Breton before coming to New York in 1972 where he died in 2006. Fernandez has pursued sexualized imagery, often with a sado-masochistic streak.
